Steam and Stillness

Steam rose from the mug like a quiet signal to slow down. Drinking warm beverages has been shown to increase feelings of comfort and emotional calm by activating temperature-related sensory responses in the body (Spence 58).

Herbal teas, especially non-caffeinated varieties, are also associated with reduced stress and improved hydration, which supports overall physiological balance (Popkin et al. 565). She wrapped her hands around the cup and breathed. Nothing demanded her attention in that moment. Stillness was enough.
