The Hug That Heals

They wrapped their arms around each other in silence. Research shows that hugging releases oxytocin, a hormone that reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and strengthens emotional bonds (Grewen et al. 169).

Even brief, intentional hugs improve mood and promote a sense of security and unity (Light et al. 378). She felt tension drain from her shoulders, heart slowing with the rhythm of their embrace. Unity did not demand words. It arrived quietly, in the steadiness of touch.
